How to Avoid the Wait at the CA DMV when Registering a Vehicle

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is the state agency in California that provides licensing and motor vehicle-related services.  The DMV processes driver license renewals, conducts driver licensing tests, and also performs vehicle registration services and other vehicle titling services.  Unfortunately, like many state offices, the hours of the DMV are limited to the same 8:00am – 5:00pm  hours that many work.  Some offices offer a few hours on Saturday, but those hours are not universally available in all branches.  Appointments may be scheduled in advance, but the availability is often two or three months in the future.  Walk-in services are available daily, on a first come / first served basis,  but the wait and the length of those lines are legendary.

The bad news is if the service you require is related to driver license or identification cards, senior citizen identification cards, or the new REAL ID, you must apply at the DMV.  There is no alternative.

The good news is if the service you require is related to vehicle registration services, there is an alternative to the DMV.  The DMV has licensed and contracted Registration Services to provide vehicle titling services to the public.  Registration Services offer the convenience of extended hours and prompt service which will save time.  Totally Notary Vehicle Registration Service is licensed and contracted with the DMV to provide the same titling services as the DMV without the wait.  Registration transactions are posted in real time with the DMV, and the plates, tag and registration cards are issued on the spot at the conclusion of your appointment.  Most transactions can be completed in as little as 10 minutes! A convenience fee applies.
